FIRST LOOK AT THE DT SWISS CARBON FIBER MOUNTAIN BIKE RIM

They are beautiful and they are here.

MBA was able to ride the stunning carbon-fiber-rim XRC1250 wheels by R. CunninghamDT Swiss in Arizona last week. Although it has not been officially announced, MBA was able to experience them. This 1250-gram wheelset has the same internal dimensions as their top-line XR4.2D rim. It is also tubeless-ready thanks to the addition of the DT Swiss molded rim liners. (Closeup on the carbon wheel) The Spokes are DT Swiss Aerolite semi-bladed stainless and in a two-cross configuration with Alloy Pro Lock hex pattern aluminum nipples. The spare-no-expense wheels begin with ceramic-bearing-equipped DT hubs that use Shimanos CenterLock splined brake-rotor interface. The XRC 330 rim is 330 grams in weight and looks stunning with its woven carbon topcoat, DT graphics and trademark red-and white DT graphics. The XRC wheels can be purchased with DT Swiss’s new titanium-skewer and ratcheting quick release system. How do they ride? There is no difference in the XR 1540 wheels that I’ve been using on my cross-country bike, except they accelerate more. They are light and can sprint, climb, and accelerate like a strong, cross-country racing wheel. DT Swiss is a firm believer in wheels. They obsess about everything they make. Carbon rims offer an additional benefit. They don’t bend, so unless you cut one in half, they can run straight or can be retuned for that purpose without getting those annoying blips that aluminum wheels get when they are bent or dinged.
